Curator: Mária H. Nepšinská Annotation: the Horror Aurum exhibition responds to the topic of the international biennale called Šperk Stret 2018 – The Aura of the Precious, while reflecting on the actual tendencies of contemporary authorial jewelry. It presents works of selected authors who strive for a certain extent of formal sophistication and conceptual dimension. At the same time, it points out the diversity in terms of the interpretation of semantic value of gold and the fact that the contemporary production of authorial jewelry is not just a matter of form interweaved with meaning emptiness. AMBER ROAD Duration of the exhibition: September 21 – September 30, 2018 Exhibiting authors: Robert Baines /AU/, Michael Becker /DE/, Monika Brugger /FR/, Kim Buck /DK/, Patricia Dimingues /PT/, Sławomir Fijałkowski /PL/, Christiane Förster /DE/, Bernard François /BE/, Warwick Freeman /NZ/, Karl Fritsch /DE/, Sara Gackowska /PL/, Andi Gut /CH/, Marta Hryc /PL/, Paweł Kaczyński /PL/, Sabine Klarner /DE/, Annelies Planteijdt /NL/, Pavol Prekop /SK/, Ramon Puig Cuyàs /ES/, Wolfgang Rahs /AT/, Tabea Reulecke /DE/, Carme Roher /ES/, Ingrid Römmich-Werner /DE/, Dana Saechuga /IL/, Gisbert Stach /DE/, Andrzej Szadkowski /PL/, Shana Teugels /BE/, Nelly van Oost /BE/, Tanel Veenre /EE/, Manuel Vilhena /PT/, Lisa Walker /NZ/, Petra Zimmermann /AT/. Annotation: The name of the exhibition – Amber Road – corresponds with the topic of the second volume of a biennale event called Gdańsk Baltic Amber that took place in 2017 under the curator baton of Sławomir Fijałkowsky a Wim Vandekerckhove. The metaphor of an amber road connecting the Roman Empire with the coast of the Baltic Sea is reflected in objects and jewels of thirty selected authors who work with this fascinating material – amber. Even the ancient civilizations would appreciate the qualities of this material which is frequently used in jewelry and which used to be referred to as the Gold of the North, by the way. The exhibition reflects on the actual tendencies of the research of fossillized rosin of coniferous trees in the fields of paleontology, biology, cultural history, craft, art and design and popularizes amber through the works of authors of contemporary jewelry.
