Viktor Frešo / Mega Viki / SK

Moyzesova sieň, Vajanského nábrežie
The monumental self-portrait with a symptomatic name called Mega Viki is a natural continuation of Frešo’s concept of intuitive portrayal of his face/head and characteristic facial expressions. The founder of ego art has been convinced that the most important thing in art is the authenticity and the truthfulness of the topic and so he often works with the motive of his oval head in various forms. Radical gesture, minimalism and megalomania which are so typical of Viktor concentrate in this work that was especially made for this year’s volume of Nuit Blanche, in the gigantic luminous head which is, to accentuate the contrast, set in the historical space of the Moyzes Hall. Supported by J&T REAL ESTATE.
Viktor Frešo studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague from which he graduated in 2003. Frešo is one of the most distinctive characters of contemporary art after the year of 2000 in the region of former Czechoslovakia. His work and his overall attitude to art is a very untypical but, at the same time, they strongly reflect on the social and cultural situation. The artist creates sophisticated concepts and projects presented as seemingly simple, finished artworks. He is very often critical in his works and aggressively expresses his disdain regarding the fine art scene and its processes, but still, there are undertones of lightness, humor and play. Whether he intervenes into the public space or exhibits in galleries, he makes sure that the effectuation translates an immediate creative action – a GESTURE. Recently, the author has also been devoted to sculpting and painting.
